The wonderfully transferable skills of parenting
Being a mom of 4 gives me a load of transferable skills that I can bring to my job. I mean, the youngest of my 4 children just graduated preschool, and my entire life as a mom flashed before my eyes as he stood there smiling and waving at me, growing up without even knowing it.
From Mikey, my youngest child, I learned the skill of being observant. He observes all of us — our wins, our loses, our tears, our mistakes, everything and learns from them every single day. He is 14 years younger than his oldest sister Gianna but they get along so well! From them, I learn patience and understanding.
As a family who’s survived domestic abuse, we still go through challenges from time to time, but we bounce back with resilience every time something brings us down. And here I’ve learned to be a team player who focuses on the bigger picture.
From Mike’s teachers Mrs. Nesci, Mrs. Allen, and Mrs. W, I’ve learned what it means to adapt to a changing world. I want to thank them for giving him such a happy, fun-filled, and enriching year at school, especially during the pandemic. I can’t imagine teaching a whole class of COVID-gen babies, and this trip has done such a stellar job of keeping the kids up-to-date!
